Experience V Talent, which one would you pick?

Well, there's a conundrum if ever I saw one!

Where the hell do either of them come from in the first place anyway, Nature? Nurture? or just plain dogged determination and not taking no for an answer and never giving up.

Talent, I leave that one up for other people to decide on. Experience though, well let's think...

BRIEF: Matt ,can you take a nice pack shot of some muesli for me?

Matt 25 years ago:

Pick up pack from corner shop on way home and shoot in 5mins.

Result: Ooh, pack is scuffed and cellophane is flared out, looks pants!!!

Matt 20 years ago:

Sort through lots of packs for best looking one, buy two spares as back up, take more than 5mins to shoot.

Result: Wow I can shoot pack shots, that's not too shoddy.

(Rinse and Repeat for several years)

Matt Present Day:

Hello, XYZ printers, you print the packs for DC, can I pick some up straight off the press so I can build them up myself. Now let's cut out that tatty cellophane and get the local picture framer to cut me some glass of the right size to replace it with. Hello is that DC development kitchen can I have the ingredients in separate bags of your products so we can make the perfect mix of each.

Build Box, Insert glass pane, make false compartment behind glass, fill with perfect mix of product through window, fill rest of pack with ballast, place on set with gloves and spend a morning shooting.

Pah.....experience who needs it...Talent, you decide!
